Thru-Hiking the AT: Maine to New Hampshire | Mahoosuc Notch & Mt. Washington (2026)

In this captivating journey, we delve into the adventures of Noah H and his companions as they embark on a thru-hike along the Appalachian Trail. The story unfolds with a sense of anticipation, capturing the essence of their experiences over the past 22 days.

The Trail's Rewards and Challenges

Noah and his friends conquered the Saddlebacks, a feat rewarded with breathtaking views. The highlight of this section was a FaceTime call with Noah's mom from the summit, a cherished moment amidst the trail's challenges.

They encountered fellow hikers like Oblock, who battled mice all night, and an awesome ridgerunner named Bug, who provided free sodas and oranges. These encounters showcase the camaraderie and support found along the trail.

Trail Magic and Unexpected Delights

The group's next big climb was Bemis Mountain, but they were sidetracked by incredible trail magic. At Bemis Mountain Road, they were treated to a feast of burgers, hot dogs, and homemade pie. So full from the generous lunch, they decided to camp instead of climbing, an unexpected yet delightful decision.

Unique Experiences and Kind Encounters

The OmDome offered a unique experience with its different vibes and an exceptional outdoor shower. They also had the pleasure of meeting Lost Sandbox again and sharing a campsite for two nights. This stretch of the trail included a first-time moose sighting and an exciting shuttle ride with Rodney, who went above and beyond to ensure they had a memorable experience.

Town Life and Trail Angels

Bethel, their last town in Maine, provided an unexpected zero day due to heavy rain. However, this allowed them to catch the new Spider-Man movie, a welcome trade-off. They met trail angels like Hank, who drove them back to the trail and provided breakfast, showcasing the kindness of strangers along the way.

The Mahoosuc Range and New Friends

The Mahoosuc range presented its challenges, with the Notch living up to its hype. Noah's injured knee slowed them down, but they persevered. Along the way, they met Newman, a thru-hiker from Nigeria, a rare encounter that brought joy and a sense of community.

Entering New Hampshire and the Whites

Crossing into New Hampshire, they met Lost Sandbox once again. The Whites offered some of the hardest hiking they'd experienced, made more challenging by the rain. The night before summiting Mt. Washington, they weathered a crazy storm, an unforgettable experience.

They climbed Mt. Washington via the Great Gulf Trail, a nerve-wracking yet rewarding experience. The winds were strong, but Brayden's support ensured Noah's safety. After the climb, they decided to take another day off due to the rain and the challenging terrain.

Moving Forward

Noah and his friends are now ready to continue their journey, rolling on towards new adventures. Their experiences showcase the beauty, challenges, and community found along the trail, leaving us with a sense of anticipation for what lies ahead.
