On the sidelines of the Summit, Modi is expected to engage in bilateral meetings with other world leaders. He will also participate in the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Leaders' Meeting, hosted by South Africa.
However, not everyone is attending. Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump announced his absence, expressing his dissatisfaction with South Africa's inclusion in the G20.
South Africa assumed the G20 Presidency on December 1, 2024, and will host the Summit for the first time on African soil. India previously held the Presidency from December 2022 to November 2023, hosting the 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi.
The G20 is an exclusive club of 19 countries and the European Union, representing the world's major economies. Under India's G20 Presidency, the African Union officially joined as a permanent member, a significant development in global economic governance.
