PM Modi Attending G20 Summit in South Africa: Key Agenda & Global Impact (2026)

Get ready for a diplomatic showdown in Johannesburg! Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the highly anticipated G20 Summit, taking place from November 21st to 23rd. This event marks a significant moment in global politics, as it's the fourth consecutive G20 Summit hosted in the Global South. But here's where it gets controversial...

PM Modi will be presenting India's unique perspectives on the G20 agenda, covering a range of critical issues. He's expected to speak at all three sessions, each focusing on distinct global priorities. The first session will delve into the challenges of achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth, with a spotlight on trade, development financing, and debt management. The second session will explore how the G20 can foster a resilient world by tackling disaster risks, climate change, energy transitions, and food systems. And the third session will shape a fair and just future, discussing critical minerals, decent work, and the impact of artificial intelligence.

On the sidelines of the Summit, Modi is expected to engage in bilateral meetings with other world leaders. He will also participate in the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Leaders' Meeting, hosted by South Africa.

However, not everyone is attending. Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump announced his absence, expressing his dissatisfaction with South Africa's inclusion in the G20.

South Africa assumed the G20 Presidency on December 1, 2024, and will host the Summit for the first time on African soil. India previously held the Presidency from December 2022 to November 2023, hosting the 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi.

The G20 is an exclusive club of 19 countries and the European Union, representing the world's major economies. Under India's G20 Presidency, the African Union officially joined as a permanent member, a significant development in global economic governance.

So, what do you think? Is the G20 Summit a platform for meaningful global cooperation, or is it just a show of power? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
