Bold headline: Cadiz Keeps GFL for Trash Pickup, Eyes Local Growth and Rent-Rate Stability
Cadiz City officials have renewed the franchise agreement with GFL to continue waste collection services within the city limits. The decision came during a special-called meeting on Monday night at Cadiz City Hall. City Administrative Officer Jack Lingenfelter indicated the council had reviewed proposals from GFL and Republic Waste of Mayfield. Ultimately, the council chose to renew the existing franchise with GFL, noting only a minimal difference in monthly fees between the two bidders.
Audio briefings accompany the decision: Lingenfelter noted there were some variances in commercial rates between the bids. The council also announced that the new three-year franchise agreement will take effect on May 1, 2026.
In a separate action, the council approved an annexation ordinance for the Cadiz RV Park, located off Rocky Ridge Road. Lingenfelter stated the ordinance must be advertised, and the Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission must conduct a public hearing and update zoning in the area before the park annexation becomes official.
Why this matters: extending GFL’s contract provides continuity for residents and local businesses while keeping a close eye on rate competitiveness and service quality. It also signals a structured process for incorporating nearby facilities like the Cadiz RV Park into the city’s planning framework.
