David Adeleye is on a mission: redemption. He's laser-focused on a rematch with Fabio Wardley, aiming to avenge his first professional loss and prove he's got what it takes to compete at the highest level.
Adeleye's defeat at the hands of Wardley in their 2023 British heavyweight title fight was a setback. But Wardley's subsequent rise to WBO world champion status has only fueled Adeleye's fire. Now, Adeleye has set his sights on a rematch in 2026.
"The WBO world champion. That would be nice," Adeleye stated, acknowledging Wardley's current status. He recognizes the target on Wardley's back and the competition he faces from other contenders.
Adeleye's recent loss to Filip Hrgovic, despite hurting Hrgovic, only served to strengthen his resolve. He is determined to come back stronger.
"I don't need to soul-search because I know who I am," Adeleye asserted, reflecting on the Hrgovic fight. "It didn't go my way. I was [angry, very angry]. But at the end of the day there's certain ways you've got to look at it, got to get back on that horse and carry on riding."
Adeleye is confident in his abilities and believes he should be defeating the opponents he faces. He sees this as a catalyst for future success.
He's scheduled to fight in Nigeria on December 19th, aiming for a statement performance to set the stage for his comeback.
"I think it propels me, puts me in good stead for next year. It puts me involved in some big fights. It's about getting back on that horse and getting back in the race," he said, emphasizing the importance of his upcoming fight.
